I’m going back into the vaults for some fun with this one. Since we downsized (are still downsizing) I’m going through a lot of different boxes one at a time. In one, I found a gold mine. All, and I mean all, of my old writings. Things like high school and college papers and all the doodlings, attempts at stories, and so many embarrassing love poems. (So embarrassing, they had to be destroyed!) But the biggest gold mine was a bunch of first lines that I wrote back in the 1970’s. I was into mysteries and suspense stories then and thought that I should try writing them. Do you have a favorite place because that’s what these first lines/opening sentences are all about?
I think this was supposed to be a mystery about someone being accused of insurance fraud, but then it turns out that’s not what happened. Maybe someday, I’ll get back to it because I love these first two lines: Our favorite place burned yesterday. Our immediate plans included finding a new favorite place.
You mean besides my bed, right? 🙂 Anywhere I can dine on a patio is my favorite. Eating + outside, yes!
This is a perfect prompt for me and I wish I Had time today to write about it. I have a rough time with “favorites” of anything. Oh, except chocolate cake. My favorite cake. But I am going to remember this for when I can actually write through it. So thanks!
Chocolate cake is a favorite of mine too. I hope you have fun with the prompt when time affords it.
Oh my goodness, how wonderful could that be! Thanks to Geek Squad all, and I mean all of my college and highschool writings were deleted literally the summer I received my bachelors. 🙁
Love this quote, it really is a great prompt!
It was fun to go through them one last time, but also time to get rid of them. Mold getting to some of the papers made the whole process easier! 😮
OH NO!!! I’m so sorry.
It’s all right. I was actually happier to see some of the later writings. I found a novel I was working on 15 years ago that I completely forgot about. One of these days I might start it back up.
It is great going through all your old ‘boxes of stuff’ when you are downsizing isn’t it? Amazing what you find that you had forgotten about. My favourite place is on my balcony overlooking the ocean and just ‘being in the moment’. Have a great week!
Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond
I like that kind of favorite place. That’s the view I aspire to.
A few summers back I found some poetry I’d written in high school. So much fun to go through!
This winter my favorite place to go with friends, a local brewery closed. It was heartbreaking as I’m such an introvert and like to be a “regular” instead of often going to new places!
My favourite place in my house is the corner of my small sofa which is where I do my blog writing, breakfast eating & reading ? My cat Leo likes that spot too!
I used to have a favorite spot for writing in my living room, but now we’ve downsized into my mother’s house and I’m still trying to get things in the right place.
I hate favorites! I just can’t choose! Many places I love, but to pick one? No can do! But I do like the back porch of our “downsized” little house. It looks out over our flower garden, butterfly bushes and lilacs, deer fence, sagebrush and juniper, farmers’ fields, and the Cascade Range of snowcaps. We didn’t plan to move here, wouldn’t have even looked in this area if not for a strange series of events…but it is certainly a sweet spot!
Sounds like an interesting story, is it on your blog so I can search for it?
I just wrote one, though there are a few way back while we were in the process. The new one is “Moving Fears”
My favorite place right now is on my porch swing reading. Many times when I am stressed I go to my favorite place in my mind which is my old apartment.
My back deck is my favorite place when the weather is nice and my sun room replaces it in bad weather. Aaahhh…..
