A lot of habitually creative people
have preparation rituals linked to the
setting in which they choose to start their day.
By putting themselves into that environment,
they start their creative day.

Even if you think you don’t…you do.  How do you start your creative day?  Whether you take yourself to the coffee shop to write or always have to have a cup of tea with you or only write first drafts in pencil while facing the window then you have a ritual.  If you have to listen to music or have your paints set up in a specific order or have to have a brand new canvas every Monday, then you have a ritual.

Rituals are meant to guide you into the next step.  They prepare the way.  So if your ritual makes you more agitated than ready to work—it’s time to find a new ritual.
