I think it’s really important to remember
that it’s a long life, and it’s a long career.
In a perfect world, your career will be long.
It does not begin and end with any one job.
The point is to continue to have longevity in your career.
Laura Leighton
Although Laura was talking about her career as an actress, it applies to other careers as well. Gone are the days when someone would start working for a company in their early 20’s and then retire from the same company. But that doesn’t mean your “career” is over. Maybe with that company, the time is done. Much like an actor, who moves from one TV show to the next or from one movie to the next. It’s really important for all of us to remember that our career continues no matter what job we take on next.
I think that is a wonderful philosophy to have and reflects pretty much what I’m thinking these days about work. My grandfather worked in the same steel mill his entire life. It was a good life but I always wondered how he would have fared doing something else in his later years. These days it is pretty safe to assume those entering the workforce now will be “job-hopping” throughout their work life. We are all essentially independent contractors…deciding what to work at…for now!
This is so true and it helps to put things in perspective that’s for sure!
I love this. My Mother often made me feel uneasy about moving through different types of work, but in the end and in the day in age it really helped me have such a wide range of experience, enough so to be able to start my own online business and start to live life in a more enjoyable and creative way
