Remember the 1980’s? The big hair, the shoulder pads? The magazines? I came across a stash of old magazines at my Mom’s house and thought it would make a great Creativity Prompt. I’m sure anyone born after 1990 is probably freaking out, but back in 1984, when this issue was published, this was hot, hot HOT! So have fun with this week’s prompt. You get your choice, you can use the picture or pick something out of one of the articles.
I’ll be sharing what I create in my newsletter. I hope you’ll share with me as well. You can do that through the comments or share it online through your own post or website and then link back to this page so I can see what you’ve created. You can keep it to yourself too, but I hope you share. I’ll be sharing my pieces through my newsletter. If you are interested in seeing more, you can sign up below.
OMG I remember reading this issue when it came out! How old does that make ME?!? Ha-ha!
I was beginning to think that I was the only one!
Not really sure what happened in the 80s – I think I missed that decade – I had my first child in 1980, another in 83 and just beast-fed all the way through from 1980 to 1985. I think I just dragged on any old clothes that were laying around. I had a few bat-wing jumpers and thought they were so cool! I do remember New Woman magazine from Canada but can’t remember if we had it in the UK. I do remember the birth of Cosmopolitan because it had a male centerfold – was Burt Reynolds the first to pose or was that just a dream? Old as I am, I seriously prefer being in 2017!!!!
Lol…I graduated high school in 1980, so the decade stands out for me.
I hope you recovered from the beast feeding :).
lol I was born in 1975. This picture reminds me of watching Dynasty with my mom!
Exactly. Lol.
The hair!! In the 1980s my hair was that style – although a bleached blonde version – I could never decide if I wanted to be Debbie Harry, Kim Wilde or Bonnie Tyler! I wore my shirts like that too …. In the 1990s I went for darker hair and a curly perm … in 1998 I went back to my blonde highlights & a crop which later grew back into the style of Bonnie Tyler again until about 2005 when I went for the straight look again…?
In the 80’s I was all in for the big, curly perm. In the 90’s, I stopped perming and just let it grow long for awhile because I didn’t know what to do with it. Then one of my friends, who was a hairdresser, took over my hair and I’ve had numerous styles and colors since.
Haha – did everyone in the 80s have to carry around a dog that went to the same hairdresser as them at all times??
