There have been millions of soldiers, in thousands of wars. But each has their own unique story. How will you write this story?

So very true. So many stories. May we never forget.
Hi, Jennifer. I’ve found you via Suzie Speak’s blog of the day and whoa (said in my best Keanu voice!) I’m glad I did. Love the prompts. I’m a fan of genealogy and have been researching my great-grandad who was a Royal Engineer in WW1. My writer brain is running away with itself when I think of the stories I could create around his life. Great blog x
Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad this prompt is making you think of your grandad. I would love to read his story.
Tomorrow (Armistice Day) I will go and put a cross on the grave of my Uncle Charlie. He was 19. The manner of his death while in the army at the start of WW2 had a profound effect on my grandmother, my mother, and the whole family back when it happened. It still provokes deep emotions, even now, if I try to talk about it with my mother who is 89. Time does not really heal, I think people just learn to live with the pain. It’s so easy to just think of all the countless deaths as one big thing to do with the wars but when you break it down to individual stories and the horrific impact on lives at the time, it is heartbreaking. My heart hurts for my mother and the grief she still feels for the big brother she chased down the street to give him something he had forgotten when he was going away again after leave. She never saw him again. The fall-out from the world wars is still affecting families to this day.
All wars have a lasting impact on the people affected. My mother’s best friend was in the army and killed during WWII. (Who knew girls could have guys as best friends back then?) When we talk about her growing up in the 1930’s, his name always comes up. In the US, November 11th is now called Veteran’s Day and it’s to honor and thank those members of the service who are alive and still serve or have served in the past. Our Memorial Day to remember those that died is on the last Monday in May. I’m so sorry for the pain that your mother still suffers.
I beg your pardon for the terrible grammar at the end of my last comment! 🙁
I don’t know what you are referring to. 😉
