If we have no peace, it is because
we have forgotten that we belong to each other

 Mother Teresa

We look forward to the time when the Power of Love
will replace the Love of Power.
Then will our world
know the blessings of peace
 William Ewart Gladstone

An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind
Mahatma Gandhi

Thursday, September 21st is the International Day of Peace or World Peace Day as it’s become known.  This day was created by the United Nations in 1981 and a further resolution calling for non-violence and cease-fires was added in 2001.  Find out more from the UN’s own page dedicated to this year’s Peace Day.

In 2021, the UN’s theme is: recovering better for a sustainable and equitable world. According to their website, “In 2021, as we heal from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are inspired to think creatively and collectively about how to help everyone recover better, how to build resilience, and how to transform our world into one that is more equal, more just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and healthier.”

If you are wondering what you can do to acknowledge or celebrate this important day, then please check out these activities found on International Day of Peace.  Or go to Peace One Day to find out their line-up of activities.

Read my previous post, International Day of Peace, if you’d like to learn more about how and why our Peace symbol was created.

I leave you with the lyrics to Bomb the World by Michael Franti and Spearhead.

Please, tell me the reason
Behind the colors that you fly
Love just one nation
And the whole world, we divide

You won’t say, you’re sorry
There is no other choice
God bless the people now
Who cannot raise their voice

We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

Whoa, we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

Violence brings one thing
More more of the same
Military madness
The smell of flesh and burning pain

So I sing out to the masses
Stand up if you’re still sane
To all of us gone crazy
I sing this one refrain

We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

Whoa, we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

And I sing power to the peaceful
Love to the peaceful why?all
Power to the peaceful
Love to the peaceful why?all

We may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

Say we can chase down all our enemies
We can even bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world into pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

And I sing power to the peaceful
Love to the peaceful why?all
I sing power to the peaceful
Love to the peaceful why?all
I sing
