and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been
and things he has done since last he saw you.

I loved Stephen King when I was growing up. I devoured every book. A brand new hardcover edition of any Stephen King novel usually resulted in an all-night reading session. It didn’t matter if there was school or work the next day. I had to finish the book. I had to know what happened. So it’s only fitting that at least one of my creativity prompts comes from a Stephen King novel. I was looking for a quote about September and I thought this one was perfect. It does feel that this is the way fall comes in. One day it is summer and the next day it is fall. No fanfare, summer just gets kicked out. And it always stays like an old friend.
And so, this is your creativity prompt. In reading it, you wouldn’t expect that this was part of a horror story…or maybe you would. And now it’s up to you to take this opening and form your own narrative. Or maybe it’s even the closing to a story about summer. It’s up to you.
