47 years ago today All In The Family debuted on television.  It was 1971.  I was 10 years old.  I remember being shocked even as I was laughing at the show.  It was so controversial at the time.  Here was the main character, Archie Bunker,  who showed the worst of every quality:  He was loud, obnoxious, bigoted, and his use of language was crude.  His character was a magnification of everything that was wrong with our country.  And he stayed pig-headed and wrong despite everyone in his life trying to show him a better path.

Here is a phrase straight out of (outta) Archie Bunker’s mouth for you to write a story with.

True story.  Carol O’Connor was so convincing in his role as Archie Bunker that for the longest time I wouldn’t watch him in anything else.  I was wrong.  Archie was a jerk, but Carol was a fantastic actor.  I missed the first two years of In The Heat of the Night because of this!

*Please note, I had this ready to go before our infamous President made his disgusting comments on Thursday.  I guess he patterned his thoughts after fellow Queens native, Archie Bunker.  What a hero to emulate.

**I know some might be wondering why I didn’t pick a picture with a family in it.  I couldn’t find the picture that I wanted, so I picked a dark nature picture that has a big X in the middle.  I guess I wanted to point out the wrongness of this type of thinking through the picture.
