Self-compassion is simply
giving the same kindness to
ourselves that we would
give to others
Christopher Germer
It really is that simple, the 1 thing you need to know to treat yourself with compassion is to give yourself the same kindness that you would give to others. But, I guarantee that it’s not easy. Most of us will have to work hard it. But if you treat yourself with kindness then you will reduce your stress, which improves your health, which gives you more energy so that you can help others. If you deplete yourself by only giving to others then eventually your well will run dry.
Loved it- you are so right about giving to oneself before to others or we might run out of all compassion and love totally!
Why do we still find it self-care so hard? Put your own oxygen mask on first, right? I hope I really learn this lesson sometime before I die! 😉
I know. Especially moms/grandmoms. We put everyone first and not just family because there’s also a whole lot of guilt if we don’t help friends or charities. But how can we help anyone if we deplete ourselves. My word for the year is renewal and that is part of it. Taking time to renew myself while I’m taking care of my mom.
You are so right. I remember a meme I saw a long time ago about this. “You cannot pour from an empty cup.” 🙂
