Chilling out on the bed in your hotel room
watching television, while wearing
your own pajamas is sometimes
the best part of a vacation

And really, sometimes that’s all you need. I’ve hiked up mountains with a head cold and a bottle of Nyquil in my backpack. I’ve also had a hot tea of Vitamin C powder and cold packets mixed together just before I went cross country skiing. I had fun, but neither trip was relaxing. In both cases, I needed to recover afterward. I needed a vacation from my vacation.
The Perfect Vacation
Some people can go hiking or cross country skiing and the next day be revved up and ready to go back to work. Not me. Even when I’m not sick, I need time off after the strenuous trip. Because that’s not what my body needs to relax. Hiking and cross-country skiing are not relaxing for me. They can be fun and they are a workout, but that’s not a vacation. For me, relaxing equals a great vacation and is just what my mind and body need. To relax, I want to be on a beach or next to a pool or even curled up in bed with a good book. That’s relaxing for me. What makes a perfect vacation for you?
A break from day to day routine of housework & cooking – so anywhere for a few days off is bliss for me! ? To be honest, I enjoy an active day on holiday but I like to relax & unwind in the evenings – balcony, glass of wine, a book/kindle.
I like to do some activities while on vacation but there definitely needs to be some down time built into my schedule. If not, my competitive side stays always on and I need it to switch off in offer to relax.
I’m with you about needing a relaxing vacation. 🙂 My kind of relaxing is hanging by the beach and reading an awesome book!
I’m with you—I understand wanting to go and do things, but taking it easy is something I don’t do as much at home, so that’s what I look forward to on vaca!!
🙂
My perfect vacation is to be on a warm beach with ocean views and a balcony. Then I can decide whether I just want to hear the ocean, see the ocean or be in the ocean.
A cruise with a balcony cabin is a perfect vacation for me and my husband. No driving, no cellphone contact with his office, lots of balcony-with-a-good-book-sitting time and great shows. AAAHHH….
That is exactly the cruise that we were on, one with a balcony so we could just sit and watch the water go by. I’d never been on a cruise before, but it taught me a lot about letting go of being “always on.”
I love the combo vacations–a little of this and a little of that. A day of activity and sight seeing, a day of rest. Too long on a beach and I get bored (and burnt). Too long on a camping trip and I’m dirty and yearning for my own bed. A cruise is an excellent compromise for a longer trip. But short jaunts are wonderful for exploring! So I think I just answered your question without describing ONE perfect vacation- but vacations to fit every mood. Thanks for asking though– thinking about vacations is my second favorite thing to think about. (What I’m going to have for dinner is my first favorite, in case you were wondering :))
I’m already planning my next vacation. Started doing it as soon as I got home from the last one, which was a nice long three-week stroll up and down the east coast, with a cruise thrown in. So, I did a variety of things but with plenty of rest days as well. The perfect vacation as far as I’m concerned.
Our honeymoon is going to be 4 days in a hotel in the same city we live in. Nothing we HAVE to do, but relax. And I have a feeling it’ll be a PERFECT vacation! 🙂
I approve of that vacation. Sometimes the best vacations are right around the corner. It will be perfect because the two of you can do with some relaxation!
