Trying new things is one of the themes of this blog.  I think it’s important to continue learning and growing and opening yourself to new experiences.  But sometimes a new thing can be something that you’ve already done.  Perhaps you originally experienced it years ago or with different people.  May you had the “beta” experience without all the bells and whistles and now you want to go back to experience more.  The former is my situation.  About 20 years ago, I took my son to Plymouth, MA for a whale watch experience and last weekend, I went again. This time we went with my husband’s family as a birthday trip for niece Erin.  “There be whales here,” as Scotty might say, and it’s true!

While our favorite Star Trek cast transported two Humpback Whales to the future in Star Trek: The Voyage Home, I spent the last weekend of summer watching two Humpback whales from a boat.  It was great fun because not only did we see two Humpbacks, but they were playing around our boat going from one side to the other and giving everyone a nice show.  We spent 45 minutes in one spot just watching these two play.

It was a far cry from my first whale watching experience where we only spotted the whales surfacing a couple of times.  And that is the risk you take with a whale watch tour.  Although I think there is better technology now and the different ships were cooperating with each other and sharing sightings of the whales.  We went with Captain John Boats and my friend Amanda will be happy to know, we used a Groupon for it and even better if you are a member of Ebates, you can earn cash back on that purchase.  Who doesn’t want to earn cash back on a trip?

Below are some of our pictures from this trip.  We had a foggy start.Foggy Start on UnfoldAndBegin.com

But that didn’t stop us from breaking out into the sun and spotting two Humpback whales.2 humpbacks on UnfoldAndBegin.com
